But yeah, Sheffield was fun. [livejournal.com profile] himedark drove a bunch of us up on the Friday. There was a bit of traffic, but we were there and settled by 3pm. Then the drinking started. It went on until 3am, which was fine at the time. Saturday morning, not so fine. Went to bed around 4am, woken up to go get breakfast at 7.30am (apparently I was very scary). The first time I've ever been so hungover I got out of bed, fell over and threw up. An experience, truly. Then, we're all at Sheffield Uni, sat in their big hall while they tell geeks from all over the country what the next few days will entail, and I realised, oh shit, I'm going to throw up in the Opening Ceremony. Luckily I only threw up a little in the hall, then I made it out to the staircase (no, not an outdoors one...) Suffice to say, I didn't drink again all weekend!

The gaming wasn't too badly affected by my hangover, which says something about the quality of the games perhaps... I don't know. They were okay, but I don't think the GMs were really involving us enough. In a one-shot game, where you have a limited time frame, you can't wait for players to find the story. It has to find them and kick them in the face. I didn't place anywhere in my category, but considering I spent an hour (or two) with my face on the table on Saturday morning, I'm not really surprised! Our University Game Society came third place overall, out of over twenty societies, which is good! We're consistently in the top three, which is good for our gaming reputation, must be said!

Sheffield is also an interesting place. I was pleasantly surprised, not knowing anything about it beforehand. Anyway, I'm off to carry on reading what I've missed.

Off to Sheffield for the Student National Games (roleplaying etc). Should be a good weekend!

Don't break the internet while I'm gone!

Argh! It's time for me to pick my dissertation topic and it's all scary. I'm thinking of Renaissance villainy. We've also been given the list of optional subjects for next year and I want to do one of the Gothic choices, but only one. If I pick one for first choice and the other for second choice for the other semester and I get both my first choices, I'll end up limiting myself to Gothic modules only. But if I don't get my first choice for one and I've put down the other for second choice, I might end up not doing any Gothic! *sigh* And I missed my morning seminar again because our d&d game went on until the early hours of the morning. It was an epic battle, like Helm's Deep, and we only survived because we sacrificed Ashley's Paladin, Ezekial. We chose by diceroll, to make it fair, but it's still very sad.

So we go to fight the evil cult. On the way, we run into an Ogre Mage, some normal ogres, and some orcs. Oh, and it's dark so we can't see at first. The Ogre Mage casts some cold spell that's really deadly, hurts everyone except me (because I'm a sneaky little rogue), which is just as well because it probably would have killed me, since I'm piss-weak. Alistair shot Ash in the back by accident, the horses got frozen and Andrew nearly died. I shot down the Ogre Mage (okay, so maybe everyone else did beat it up a bit first) then some handsome dude who turned out to be the cult leader turned up and helped us. I stole some gold. Turns out the cult aren't actually evil, they're just reacting to the incompetence of the established temple, which makes our course of action a lot less simple. So we sort of took the town, but there are still a bunch of mercenaries that need paying, and now we're trying to figure out how to fix the town that is drowning in bureaucracy, taxes and orcs. And Laura was playing Alex's character so the robot now has a kitten on its chest.

Went out last night, didn't go that well. Still got quite tipsy. Then came home. Then woke up at 6am and had some toast. Then slept until 1pm. I still need to do some work, but I'll probably end up role-playing instead. The evil cult needs to be stopped, after all.
